Karpaha Sands

The hotel looks very primising in the pictures, beautiful setting and facilities. Unfortunately we were a bit disqppointed on the way it is managed. It looks like the place is abandoned relying on its own structure and pictures. Pros: - beautiful setting and location, in front of a beautiful beach. - rooms are well done, big bathrooms, nice outdoor area. - faclities have a beautiful decoration, the bar, the restaurant. Cons: - cleaning! The resort has a cleaning issue. To the point that we wrote "clean me" with our fingers on the restaurant toilet mirror, and it was there during our entire stay. Nothing has regular cleaning, spots everywhere, toilets are terrible specialy the poil toilet (see pictures). - bar drinks are not good. We tried many drinks and juices in all the hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka, and this one we had to give up, drink after drink, juice after juice, were not good at all. Also the drink glasse come very very dirty. - bar is beautiful but never had any music during our stay. Its a silent empty place, no one uses it... and the bartender usualy is not there which makes it a ghost place. - service is welcoming but not prepared. For example before you reach the breakfast area upstairs they ask you: "what do you want for breakfast? So i dont have to go upstairs to ask", overall staff is tired, not motivated and have no training, they are as abandoned as the hotel. - spa was closed during our entire stay, because the lady had days off. So we booked a hotel with a Spa that did not exist...you have to be lucky not to book on her days off. - when at check-out i tried to tell them the place have lots of potential but they need to pay attention to this details they just replied: thank you for your stay, please make us a review on tripadvisor! So they just don't pay attention... which is sad to see. I wish they could change the management and have someone motivated and energic to transform the place into the best hotel in Sri Lanka, because they could be.

Восторг полнейший) Начиная от сотрудников, которые нас встречали на входе в отель. Совсем не хотелось уезжать, но смогли забронировать только на один день, на другие даты уже не было свободных вилл. Встретил нас главный менеджер и у нас был личный помощник. Все так красиво, номера с собственным двориком более уединенные, чем те, что с выходом к морю. Интерьер очень стильный, классная зона для чая и душ на улице, а самое главное-это наличие ванной) В главном корпусе есть зона для работы на компьютере и детская зона-невероятно красивая комната. На пляже много фотозон, возле бассейна есть бар, официанты разносят напитки. Завтрак идеальный, подача и сами блюда-высший класс. Ужин понравился, заказывали блюдо от шефа, оно зависит от улова в этот день. У нас были лобстеры. Везде делают комплиментики-кокосы при вселении, креветки у бассейна, детокс напитки на завтрак и т.д. Много путешествуем, но именно этот отель запал в сердце. Наверное, дело ещё в душевном отношении к каждому гостю. Главный менеджер Умберто - итальянец, провожал нас вместе с остальными сотрудниками. Обязательно вернёмся ещё.

Karpaha Sands is a luxury hotel with unique beach Glamping tents all situated in amongst the palm trees, with fantastic views, it's a most beautiful Sri Lankan location. This really is a hideaway resort, luxury meets authenticity. Guests can unwind and be close to nature and relax in the infinity pool, or sit and chill in the artistic boutique surroundings. A walk across the beautiful white sand and then swim in the turquoise sea you can observe the local fishermen go about their daily work. The food and drinks were out of this world as was all the staff working in the Karpaha sands, we really can't wait to go back.

The most magical, perfect paradise in Sri Lanka. My husband and I spent 6 nights her, in the middle of our 2 week trip on the island. We could not get over the kind, accommodating nature of the staff here & how they made our trip so unbelievably special. A special thanks to Nifras, and the whole restaurant and bar team. Remembering our favourite drinks, our names and giving us tips & tricks about where to visit on the next part of our trip. Thank you to Umberto, for spending the time to get to know us, and for making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. The hotel really is a tranquil little hiatus. If you’re wanting a real reset and some R&R, this place is for you. We can’t wait to come back one day

What an amazing place! The location and setting is incredible and definitely delivers a boutique experience. Luxurious, without being pretentious. It’s hard to fault. After travelling to around 30 countries and staying in some pretty amazing places, this is definitely up there with one of the best. However, everyone is different and I personally appreciate a smaller, well run boutique accommodation over a big chain hotel. If you prefer shiny and new, lots of other restaurants and hotels around you and no sign of wildlife/insects, then maybe this isn’t for you. However, if you want a remote location with unspoilt beaches and appreciate that staff cannot control nature, then this is the place! We stayed in a Seed suite for a family of 6 and it was perfect understated luxury. A huge shoutout to our lovely butler, Ash who helped us with anything we needed. The GM Uberto, was always around to chat to and a lovely presence, as was Cleora. They clearly ensure the team here are well led as everything was so smooth and ran effortlessly. Food was exceptional and of high quality. We have a coeliac (gluten free) and they accommodated her needs perfectly. Try the Sri Lankan breakfast! It’s was amazing and the best one of the trip. The massage was great and set in an authentic, open air style bungalow. This is not a ‘full frills’ style day spa, but I really enjoyed it and can’t fault the massage. We also had the joy of an outdoor family movie night and it’s was fabulous! A lovely experience and can definitely recommend. A seriously impressive experience and if you are thinking about going, just book…you won’t be disappointed. We are already planning our return!

Loved Karpaha Sands. It is in a fabulous and unspoilt location with miles of sandy beach stretching as far as the eye can see. The service is exceptional for Sri Lanka, and the personal butler service works very well. Particular shout out to Ash who was very proactive, accommodating and responsive, without being ‘cloying’. I live here and sometimes struggle with local holidays which don’t quite deliver on what they promise, but Karpaha Sands does. The quality of the service, the quality of the spirits and drinks and the food are on point. We enjoyed the Sri Lankan breakfasts but took the opportunity to also enjoy seafood and homemade pasta (which understandably isn’t always well done here). The GM oversees everything and leads from the front. We felt very welcome. The lap pool is fabulous with stunning views. We were very happy with our accommodation - I loved the outdoor showers and turn down service with a nightly ‘treat - but next time will upgrade to a beach front tent to enjoy the sunrise. The glamping style tents are spacious, well equipped and I liked they were sympathetic to the environment. Overall we can’t wait to go back. Karpaha Sands delivers in a way very few do in Sri Lanka, and particularly on the East Coast.

- The location is exquisite but it is very remote, even a walk down the beach is quite difficult. - Food was delicious however slightly limited with choice given no other restaurants nearby - Pool area is amazing - The manager and the staff were all lovely people. Our butler Namal was an absolute legend. - There is a bit of a bug issue unfortunately. There are ants everywhere - all over the decking, sunbeds, and tents. It made sitting outside very uncomfortable generally. Whilst it is impossible to control nature, I didn't get the impression anything was treated with anti insect measures - Big mosquito issue in the evening despite wearing repellant. Again, would have liked to see some efforts to counter the issue generally - The spa is a bit lacking. It is 2 tents without any centralised area. My partner and I both had treatments that had respective issues (not the quality of the massage). Management was very receptive and removed them from the bill and is working on remedying the issue - We went with an 8 month old baby, and despite the staff doing their best to accommodate, the location just isn't set up properly for a baby
