The Mount Rooms

Me and my partner stayed at the mount rooms in July whilst we visited Barry for the Gavin and Stacey experience .we arrived at the hotel and we had a parking space but noticed it was very limited and didn’t use the car all weekend due to how busy the car park got.the girl at reception was so friendly and allowed us to check in early.the room was clean spacious and we had such a lovely view!the only negative of the room was the mattress was quite hard!.also the room was quite warm but we brought our own mini fan and extension lead .the first night we was woken by the fire alarm at 1am we went down to reception and was greeted by more guests who was woken by alarm and a staff member who assured us that it was caused by either vaping or thunder and lightening but not a fire ,we also heard the room next door having s*x quite loudly but that can’t be helped lol .it is close to the beach about 20 minute walk but can get a train from Barry to Barry island,it is quite steep and hilly so beware if disabled ,some nice restaurants nearby especially usta Turkish which was stunning!and whetherspoons is a three minute walk for a breakfast ,had a very pleasant stay and will be returning!

Dreadful. Worst hotel we have ever stayed in and we are well traveled. Thankfully we only needed the room for a couple of hours sleep before going to the airport. However, saying that, we got no sleep. The bed is about 1 foot off the floor, the mattress is wafer thin and provides no comfort at all. The room is filthy (16) there is no underlay and the floors creak terribly. The shower should have been ripped out 10 years ago. In short disgraceful. On top of that the building next door is lit up all night so it lights the room up as well and as the curtains are all ripped and about as thick as toilet paper there is no hope of any darkness then when it rains, as it did last night all the gutters are broken so it sounds like Niagra falls as it gushes onto the gravel below. I know it’s a cheap hotel but never again. We would have been better in a tent on the side of the M4. Strongly advise if you need a hotel then go to another one.

To start with you make the assumption that there are no sweeping brushes in Barry but then I saw them for sale in the hardware shop in the High Street!! Joking apart I cannot understand why the manager cannot direct a member of staff to sweep the cigarette ends up from the front of the hotel. Then to put a tall ash tray there !! And remember to empty it each day. To reply ‘find a better hotel’ as she did to one reviewer who mentioned the fag ends just shows poor management skills. Anyway my room was ok bedding and towels were clean. In fact the cleaner had done a good job. But the mould and mildew around the bathroom window showed new windows were needed rather than cleaned. And I understand that is a huge job that would need scaffolding. Breakfast choice was poor but there’s a Wetherspoons down the road which like the hotel is scruffy but breakfast is okay. All the staff we communicated with were fabulous - really helpful.

Staff are pleasant, location is excellent, rates are fair, rooms are basic but clean. However, after visiting this hotel on main occasions, it's now obvious the rooms desperately need decorating and updating. The mattress and duvet were both badly stained, the bedside cabinet was badly damaged, the grouting behind the bathroom taps was disgusting. All in all, the room was so disappointing

I’m actually shocked to read any negative reviews about this hotel! My husband and I stayed at the hotel, and we thought it was lovely! The decor was really nice, they have a full sized bar and seating area inside, the bistro area of the hotel is like an actual “ cafe”. Our room was lovely and very clean, this hotel is amazing value for money, and set in the perfect location too! The staff were wonderful, the two ladies on reception yesterday afternoon, and the lovely lady who was working behind the bar in the evening too. Absolutely recommend the hotel to anyone who is looking to stay in Barry

The best I can say is that it is cheaper than the Travelodge ! The staff confess the website needs work as is totally outdated - and the manager confesses they have lots of complaints because what they are able to offer bears no comparison to what is stated. However the bed is comfortable and the room and linen are clean. There is tea and coffee and jug, and a trace of liquid soap in the bathroom, which the young manager, who is really helpful and got my TV working, assured me the housekeeper will top up this morning. The “bistro” has two dishes - chicken and chips and pizza, which are cooked by the reception staff, so is a long way from what is described. Continental breakfast is either cereal and toast or a sausage bap - again provided by whoever is on reception. There is a bar but it has limited stock The room I have booked as a single occupant is very small and doesn’t even have anywhere to hang a towel in the bathroom or a plug in the washbasin. There is a lift. I have to say the young manager was truly helpful and I think he is wonderful - and was prepared to help me find a meal delivery to suit me on his phone. So although the hotel is shabby and not what expected, it’s location is central and it’s cheap.

Excellent staff,great location bar reasonably priced. Need better blinds has daylight comes through. More coffee would be good but it's cheap to stay I would recommend it room big enough near railway station but a small steep hill so not recommend for elderly

Upon arrival, we were greeted with by a friendly receptionist and the initial impression was that the hotel seemed reasonable value for money - however the staff are the only positive thing I have to say about this hotel! We booked for 2 nights in a small double and were given Room 2. The mattress was incredibly uncomfortable and thin with the bathroom and carpets in need of a clean. However, as we’d only paid around £45, we thought we’d make do. Tea and coffee facilities are in the rooms with plastic mugs - we asked for glasses but were told we weren’t allowed them! Our first night was awful - there were people walking and talking loudly outside the room until 5am and there are no phones in the room to call to reception to report it any issues through the night. The following morning we complained and asked to move rooms. The receptionist listened and arranged for us to be moved for the second night. We were given Room 54 in “The Cottage” - don’t let the name fool you into thinking it is quaint and pretty - it’s a small building set back from the main hotel but the room was adequate. Bed was comfy and it was quiet. We were happy to spend our second night in this room. We won’t be returning… Like others have said, the website is deceiving!

The room was large however the bed was incredibly uncomfortable, were both in our twenties and after two nights had sore backs from how bumpy and hard the mattress was. The pillows were yellow under the pillow cases. The bathroom needed much TLC, the shower was of poor quality - hard to get the temperature right and not much pressure. The shower curtain was stained and filthy. The toilet felt loose from the floor as it moved each time. On Friday night, we were kept up until 2am as we could hear some girls in a room next to us talking as if we were in the same room. On the Saturday night, music two floors below could be heard and felt onwards until midnight. The walls and furniture were vibrating from the bass of the music. View from the room was a roof and nettle bushes. Staff were friendly though. The location isn’t the best, but we were aware and either drove to the beach or got an Uber into Cardiff City. If I were to visit again, we would stay in Cardiff City and Uber into Barry for the day.
