Our stay at Thotalagala was nothing short of perfect. Calm beyond words—a true escape from the noise of everyday life. The views are absolutely stunning, with lush tea estates stretching out in every direction. There was an endless supply of tea to sip on while taking in the scenery. The service was top-tier in every way. Chamara, the manager, along with our wonderful butlers Janaka, Dulip, and Vinoth, and everyone else at the property made us feel completely at home. They were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Their hospitality truly set this place apart. The food, incredible. Every single meal was a delight—from the buttery pastries to crispy hoppers to the perfectly cooked steak. We looked forward to every bite. My family loved every moment of our stay. Thotalagala is a rare gem, and we can’t wait to return.

I can only add to all the other glowing reviews. This place is one in a million and an absolute must if visiting the tea plantations. It is almost like staying with friends. The house is beautiful, spacious and elegant and the view across the garden is breathtaking with the infinity pool quietly there and not detracting from the ambience. I don’t think I have experienced such perfect service, the moment one moved there was someone asking what they could do for you! The two sitting rooms were just lovely and who would have expected open fires in February and even more delightful, hot water bottles in the bed! We had a wonderful ride in a tuk tuk through the tea plantations up to Lipton’s Seat with even more stunning views and were then treated to afternoon tea on the lawn. Everything was just perfect and I cannot recommend Thotalagala highly enough.

Situated in the tea country of Sri Lanka, you drive down a small road with local houses and then come to the beautifully landscaped Thotalaga, which is perched on a hill with a perfect unobstructed view. The team at Thotalaga have written the book on anticipatory service! It was raining for our tour of the tea factory - rain jackets, umbrellas and waters were awaiting us. It was chilly and a chance of rain to see the sunrise at Lipton’s seat - this time, we were also sent with blankets and served hot coffee and tea before our journey (properly, sitting down w the good china). And meals were so well done! After much Sri Lankan food it was nice to have a steak option for dinner, and their beef tenderloin did not disappoint. With just 7 rooms, the hotel is cozy. We left feeling well taken care of; individually looked after. They have done a wonderful job keeping a delightful staff who truly seek to serve. Kudos to them for creating such an environment.

What an amazing hotel in an incredible setting. The views from the verandah make you feel like you are on top of the world. The team led by the incredibly attentive and professional general manager is friendly, professional and provides the best service possible. The Lipton Suite is superb and the whole hotel is spotless. Lots of little details like the tuk tuk ride up to Lipton seat, the high tea on the terrace, the delicious food and the comfortable and spotless house make this one of a kind stay. You will not regret coming to this corner of paradise! Thank you to the team at Thotalagala

Thotalagala offers world class service. The whole experience is nothing short of exceptional. The location is stunning, providing breath-taking views that are truly unforgettable. The food is exceptional, with every meal being a delightful culinary experience. A heartfelt thanks to the entire team, especially Mr. Manjula and the rest of the staff, for their outstanding service. Their warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail make the stay incredibly special.

Top quality colonial style hotel in tea plantation area of Sri Lanka. High quality food with excellent service and local flavours. Colonial style rooms but good amenities - bed, bath and layout. Pleasant gardens and local walks and close to tea tours. Refreshing pool with great views. Highly recommended for quiet get away in Sri Lanka.

What an amazing place! Stunning location set high up in the hills with views to die for. It is an oasis of tranquility. This isn’t the place to come and party! The bungalow is spacious and airy with a real colonial feel to it as one would expect from a plantation manager’s residence. Rooms are large with good bathrooms. Staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. The place was so good we cancelled our trip out and just rested in the garden, taking in the views and having the odd cocktail. We were sorry to leave!

Even though it is now a month ago, I cannot get our stay at Thotolagala out of my mind. The setting s stupendous but it it is the people who make this place very special. The service, care and attention to detail is amazing. On our first morning, I went out with my paint box to do a watercolour sketch on the veranda, There was apparently no one around, and as I was rummaging in my bag for pencils etc, three pots of water magically appeared on the table. The food was delicious, the swimming pool refreshing, the walks in the area beautiful. Thank you Mandala , Charmara and all the team for making this an amazing experience. We cannot wait to return,

An amazing location with an absolutely spectacular view, wonderful food, beautiful room but what makes Thotalagala so special was the service and attention to detail which was probably among the best we've had anywhere in the world - a really special place to stay.
