I booked a Sunday night stay at Hartwell as a Christmas present to my wife. Neither she nor I were disappointed. The house is so impressive, as you'd expect from a Jacobean mansion owned by the National Trust, but the staff helped to make it feel more intimate than you otherwise would expect. We had dinner, and that didn't disappoint. Our room, Number 20 up in the attic, was large and very comfortable, with two window seats. The grounds are beautiful, made much more interesting by the beautiful display of daffodils - and the numerous kites (the birds!) flying overhead. All in all, a memorable experience. But I'd like to give special thanks to all of the staff: reception, housekeeping, dining room and spa - you all made it a very special experience.
