The location of this Elizabethan Grade 1 listed manor house is perfection, down a long drive, surrounded by beautiful countryside. We were here to celebrate my husband's birthday and had room 16, which is huge, beautifully appointed and with a four poster and roll top bath in the room, plus a great bathroom too. Service here is very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff smile and seem to really enjoy working there. The bar, set in the oldest part of the house had an open fire and the bar staff get all the orders out promptly, despite having to make lots of excellent cocktails. Outside, the lovely gardens have some beautiful specimen trees, and the Folly restaurant is very pretty, we did not have enough time to fit in a meal there. The kitchen garden is full of fresh vegetables and fruit, which is used in the restaurant and really enhances the menu. We had two meals in the restaurant, both very good. My husband is Coeliac and the waiters were very helpful with this. As a vegetarian it would have been nice to have a little extra choice but what I did have was lovely, my husband said his food was well cooked with clearly high grade ingredients too. No delays during service and the same friendly service in the restaurant. I would take issue with some of the reviews that say the food is expensive. We eat out quite a lot and the prices seemed reasonable to us, certainly the drink prices were normal and the wine list had lots of choice at all price points. The breakfasts were very good too and again no long waits for the cooked part to arrive. During our stay we went for a long walk in the woods, enjoyed the garden, and got through the nibbles in our little piggy larder drawer. We cannot think of anywhere thatwe havestayed that we have enjoyed more, and were reallly sad to leave.
