Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Atascadero

Nice brand, new hotel, but I would say not totally ready for guests. Things seem not quite complete yet. For example, at breakfast, the coffee was always empty, I went on 3 occasions on a Saturday morning and every time I had to wait for a fresh pot. Also, in the gym there is no lock on the door, and there are no towels available in the facility. When I requested a few things for my room, such as a shower cap and a laundry bag, those were not in supply either. The staff seems nice enough, and we did get an upgraded room, and pillows and mattresses are quite comfortable compared to other Marriott in the Paso area . It’s not that far off from the other hotels, and you can easily get to most hikes, wineries and restaurants on either side of Paso.

I am a Marriott titanium member and my husband worked for Marriott for 27 years. The Fairfield in Atascadero, CA is the worse hotel we have ever stayed in. The property is newly renovated and if this is Marriott’s new concept for Fairfield, it is a complete failure. Our first room was an “upgrade” on the first floor with sliding glass door to the pool. The gate to the pool area from the parking lot is un locked all the time. We did not feel safe. The WiFi at the hotel is terrible, intermittent or dial-up slow. Cell service on the property is no better. The water pressure was just above a drip in the shower and faucet. The breakfast area is far too small. There was no seating available. I went to the breakfast room at 8 am and there was minimal hot food available. There were 2 pancakes left, 2 slices of barely cooked bacon and some cold hard boiled eggs. We went out for the day and were expecting housekeeping service. We purposely took the do not disturb sign off the door and placed our towels on the bathroom floor. When we returned about 6:30 pm, the room wasn’t cleaned. I called to get new towels and was hung up on twice. We also complained about the open pool gate and were told it would be addressed next week. We asked for another room and were told we couldn’t move because we had used points for the room. REALLY? If you use the benefits Marriott rewards you for your loyalty you are not treated the same as a paying guest? Unacceptable. The GM, Anthony also basically called my partner a liar. Anthony told him he was stocking the breakfast room that morning and there was plenty of hot food available. We were finally moved to a 2nd floor room. The ceiling in the shower was moldy and looked like it had a leak from the room above. We did not want to move again but did alert the front desk of the once-again unacceptable room condition. She came to the room to see for herself and stated she would make a note of it.

We were at the hotel for one night in December on a trip from LA to SF. The hotel has just opened and the old reviews should be disregarded. The hotel is fresh and clean. Check in took ages, not sure what was going on, trouble with the computers or just new staff. Every staff member was kind and trying their best. The room was clean and bed comfortable. The shower is amazing. There is a refrigerator in the room, no microwave. The ice machine was broken. The breakfast, 6-9, was a free for all with too many guests, and not enough staff to keep up with the food. There was no salt or pepper. It took a very long time for the food to be replenished. You could sit and drink a cup of coffee while you waited for the food to come out, if you could find a place to sit. The area was not large enough to handle all the guests at the 8:30 hour. The hotel was not completely full, thank goodness, as there is no way they could handle it. They only had it probably half full for a soft opening. Once the hotel gets the kinks out, the staffing it needs, etc I would give it a 4 rating. Currently, it is clean, the staff very friendly, the beds comfortable.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The Wi-Fi was weak, and couldn’t use it at all in the morning. There is a three-nozzle shower that can be a bit confusing. And if you’re tempted to pay $5 more for a “courtyard view” room, don’t it’s just a weedy patch of unkempt lawn.
