Amberley Castle- A Relais & Chateaux Hotel

We only visited Amberley Castle for Afternoon Tea, (I’d LOVE to stay overnight though!) but it was a truly wonderful experience from the time we turned into the driveway, through the gardens and to a friendly greeting at reception. The castle is just the perfect venue for any occasion, special or just personal decadence! The Afternoon Tea was a real surprise. After ordering tea from their excellent selection, we were offered a Chef's Special tea in a small glass. Deliciously different! The '1st' course, toasted cheese & tomato sandwich, savoury tart, sausage roll and a platter of tasty sandwiches were served on a 3-tier serving platter and were very, very tasty. Luckily we were both hungry, as we were plied with more tea and the 'sweet' course of our tea - another 3-tiered platter of warm fruit & plain scones, small jars of homemade strawberry jam & clotted cream plus an assor**ent of exquisite cakes and an apple crumble tartlet. Again, it was all delicious! In fact, it was all so lovely and cosy in the castle on such a wet & miserable Sunday afternoon, that we didn't want to leave - so we didn't! We made ourselves very comfortable with a welcome cup of coffee in one of the cosy lounges and sat right in front of the inviting log fire reading the interesting books of days gone by in Sussex! A BIG thank you to all the hotel and restaurant staff who made us so welcome. It was a very memorable Sunday afternoon and we cannot wait to go back with a large group of friends in December for a private Festive Lunch!

Amberley is one of the best castle-hotel close to London. Everything is magnificent. Unic design, high class service, amazing for country side fine dining restaurant, fresh 'medieval' rooms, panoramic landscapes, old fairy tale village around all this....

Equally excellent dinner party for eight and tea for four at Ambeley. The excellence of the food and elegance of the setting was equalled by the splendid, professional and sympathetic service. Already looking forward to next year.

We could not fault the staff, service or the amazingly tasty afternoon tea. Historic and beautifully maintained location...worth a visit just for that alone and such a cosy and comfortable a**osphere in the lounge with the log fire burning. Book for tea as soon as you can. We were there in total 2 3/4 hours, which is quite a while, but service is intentionally unrushed and we relaxed into the sofas for a well-earned, chilled afternoon. Yoy will need the gaps between the tea and two food courses to digest and prepare for the next. Totally worth the £50 ppn...perfect for special occasions. We had need for disabled access and staff were very helpful explaining how to come in with least possible walking. There are only two shallow steps down from the drop off circle which was manageable.

Absolutely exquisite vegan fine dining experience at Amberley Castle, our film crew loved it but... every single course truly a delight, except for a 'main' course of cauliflower with a sauce which can by no means be constituted as a dinner, however the chef's replacement being a magnificent mushroom pasta was indeed a true and delicious main course - if only the this were on the main menu it would five stars!

We went for an overnight stay arrived around 3.00 and received a very warm welcome and made to feel special and valued. Food was amazing as was the surroundings and ambiance. Have stayed here before and every time is just as memorable, for an unforgettable experience I would strongly recommend a visit

I treated my two friends to a high tea, for their birthdays. I did it as a suprise to both of them. We could not have asked for anything better. The food, the service and the surroindings were higher than my expectations. We all had such a memorable time.

We came here for our 25th Wedding Anniversary five years ago and couldn’t wait to return for our 30th! We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes then shown to our gorgeous room which had everything we could possibly need including a N’espresso coffee machine, a jar of Amberley Castle baked cookies, a Dyson hairdryer and luxurious L’Occitane toiletries. We enjoyed our pre dinner cocktails in one of the relaxing lounges before we were taken to the restaurant for an amazing dinner which was heaven for food lovers like us! The bed and pillows were so comfortable I really didn’t want to get up in the morning, however, breakfast was fantastic so it was worth it! We walked that off with a wander around the beautiful hotel grounds and into Amberley which is full of chocolate box thatched cottages, a little church, the pottery and Village Store, which are also nearby and worth a visit. All in all we didn’t want our amazing experience to end and wish we could’ve stayed longer. The friendly, attentive staff, gorgeous surroundings and cleanliness of the hotel were all exceptional and we really can’t wait to return again.
