My wife and I had a short break at the Cliff House Hotel. I had often heard about it but had never been. Right from the very start this was a celebration of old world elegance. I don't mean that the hotel is tired. Far from it. Everything is modern and very well maintained. The rooms are beautifully appointed and by fiendish contrivance all have sea views. The rooms run down the face of the Cliff. Our room had a balcony. There is a cliff garden which runs between the balconies. We ate dinner at the bar which was very pleasant. Our breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever enjoyed. With valet parking and your bags transferred as if by magic to your room there is a strong sense of being minded right from the start. Which of us doesn't need a little minding? The staff are wonderful. All pleasant and smiling. A particular mention for Patrick who met us on arrival and was such a gentleman making us feel instantly at home. He also rescued us when he found us wandering lost around the hotel for which I am grateful! In short this is a wonderful hotel and a lovely experience. I can't wait to come back.

Luckily I booked this hotel! From the moment we arrived we felt like very special guests. A real gem, the location and view from the balcony are just stunning, the rooms are so cozy. 100% top of the list to recommend to others for a very special weekend. Michelin star restaurant, pool and spa! I loved the style of the hotel, very homely, polite and welcoming staff who want to make sure you enjoy every minute of your stay. We wanted something very close to the sea and this is the best you can get. If you are looking for a romantic evening with your other half, this is something I highly recommend!

Fabulous hotel, great location and facilities, lovely and helpful staff. The pool and jacuzzi were a real treat. The food in the bar restaurant was very disappointing compared to previous visits, certainly not to the standard expected of a 5* hotel.

Paid €745 for one night in a of luxury in a terrace room, including spa baths and dinner. Gorgeous location but pretty disappointing overall - unfortunately over promises and under delivers. Arrival: no valet, no one to open the swinging entrance door (which was not obvious as one was locked); welcome once inside was lovely, very nice reception staff but busily typing on computers behind a tiny desk; Room with balcony was basic, TV only had RTE, Virgin and BBC: no water in fridge; Best bit of our stay was the outdoor copper baths; stunning setting and option to add more hot water; Pool: cool but cool in temperature also; Bar-restaurant: very good food, had the most delicious huge bowl of carrot soup; Service: some very experienced staff, but 50% far less who discussed their weekend and other personal life stuff behind a glass screen inside dining room; Turn down service: duvet was turned down however towels were left on the floor, bathroom was untouched, lamps not on; Breakfast: had to wait ages to be sat, though the wild salmon was worth it; The property is a bit of a maze and no signage for the Spa; a “garden” sign lead me to a fire exit door, after passing a mattress standing in the corridor; once out in the garden I couldn’t get back in- had to walk to other end of the hotel where a member of staff opened a similar fire door for me! Outside area was just ok, some of the wood banisters rotting; Interiors: average, numerous cobwebs in difficult to reach glazed walls; Lounge: doesn’t exist - asked where it was and was told it’s used for breakfast in mornings and Michelin restaurant in evenings; so there was only ONE SOFA in the entire hotel - in the bar. Lobby would be a lovely place to have some more seating/sofas. None of these things by themselves would be a bother but when stacked up they made me feel increasingly oversold and ripped off- a pity as this place has so much potential.
