Rothay Manor Hotel

Was lucky enough to be given an afternoon tea voucher for my birthday. The hotel is stunning, well looked after. The gardens were so nice and quite peaceful. Inside was beautifully decorated. The lady on reception was lovely and friendly and took us into the bar area to wait for the gentleman to take us to our table. Once in the dinning area was asked if there was a table we would prefer to sit at. When taking our drinks order, the option was coffee or tea. My husband had tea but I ask for a glass of water. The waiter offered me a hot chocolate which I had. Know it was July and a warm Friday afternoon but it was the best hot chocolate. Was asked if there was any allergies. Whilst it’s not an allergy we don’t like salmon. The waiter was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We wasn’t rushed at any point. The sandwiches were so nice. The bread was lovely and soft. The cake selection was great and so moorish. Throughly enjoyed our afternoon at the Rothay Manor. Would highly recommend.

Had a perfect stay at the Rothay Manor Hotel. It was our first trip to Ambleside. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the town centre and you can easily access the boats that cruise up and down the lake; the weather was kind to us on the whole of our trip. Our room was lovely and the staff were excellent. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was tremendous, the food and service were exemplary. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

The food was very good and well presented, from the excellent sourdough all the way through to the in house ice cream. The staff were exceptional. The seats comfortable and the music and noise acceptably low with tables far enough apart for privacy. We will make this a regular place to eat.

We had high expectations given the £450 per night price, but the experience didn’t quite measure up. Housekeeping left our room unlocked one day and didn’t restock basic items like toilet rolls and tissues. Breakfast service also struggled during busy periods—we waited nearly an hour for pancakes that arrived soggy and inedible. To their credit, the staff were very friendly and responsive when we raised our concerns. They also applied a small discount as a gesture of goodwill, which we appreciated. Still, for the price, we expected a more consistent standard across the board. It was okay, but we wouldn’t return.

We recently visited the hotel to celebrate my wife’s birthday and enjoyed every minute, the staff are very helpful and friendly. We booked a superior plus room with the benefit of a nice balcony overlooking the gardens, unfortunately the weather dictated that we didn’t get full use of it but I’m sure in summer it would be a great place to sit and take in the gardens, we will definitely return.

We really enjoyed this stay over for my husbands 60th Birthday! For us it was an indulgent one night treat, though a lot of people were there for longer and also looked to be enjoying it! Our room was very nice, clean and spacious with a lovely outlook and balcony. The rest of the hotel was also very nicely presented. Our food was pricey but reflected in the quality and presentation. Staff were courteous and the service was very good. It would have been a five if not for: the ongoing building noise outside so you didn’t want to use the balcony (not hotels fault but does rather affect value for money) A bit of a feeling that they were rather trying to earn a bit extra where other hotels at that price maybe wouldn’t. There were some free snacks and chocolates in the room but bottled water was priced at £3.50?? Also there was a bit of focus on pre dinner snacks which didn’t sit well to us alongside the nice gourmet menu which we were happy to pay for. Maybe this is more the done thing now, we don’t eat in such restaurants a lot but in other places have been offered little appetisers.
