Playa de Sala Boutique Hotel, Adults Only

To be clear, I rarely leave reviews. What could’ve been a much higher rating due to the kitchen, housekeepers and other staff. The person I believed to be the “owner” Forrest and her what appeared to be boyfriend?, did their very best to earn themselves a 1 star rating. The night before we checked out we were given a bill with charges during our stay. All was good until I noticed a ‘damages’ charge for $450usd for a 1’x 5” piece of tile that dropped off the side of the sink from placing my hand on it while I was brushing my teeth.. we chose to inform the staff what had happened, because we felt it was the right thing to do. When I asked about the charge, Forrest’s boyfriend? (Idk if he even works there) mentioned it was because the tile came from Mexico, which is why it was so expensive. When I explained it FELL from touching it, he said well there have been multiple other ppl who’ve stayed there and it hasn’t fallen.. (again, no idea if this guy even works there) I told the “owner” and her boyfriend I wouldn’t be paying for that, her boyfriend then proceeded to grasp at straws insinuating that I may have hit my partner because she was recovering from a bacterial lip infection, and he thought they appeared bloody? I was obviously upset from the insane allegations, when Forrest stepped in to say, let’s wait for josh(the GM) to talk it over in the morning.. I was flabbergasted and couldn’t believe what was occurring. If you’re coming to Belize- DO NOT STAY AT PLAYA DE SALA. I promise you’ll regret it.

Well overall Playa De Sala(PDS} is adequate.If you are looking for a very quite stay with occational visitors to the bar and restuarant you will enjoy PDS. The owner Forest is a delight. She will go to great efforts to accomadate all requests. If you are looking for access the Caribean Sea this not your place. PDS sitts on an inland extension of the ocean, calm but devoid of usable waters. It is a very plesent vue but not what you expect in the Caribbean. The Food is very good for the most part and people travel down the worst third world road to dine. The Boat bar is unique and fun and again some brave the pothole ridden road to visit. If you consider PDS don 't add any "pachages" espcially travel. All activities and adventures are economically and easily booked direct. Overall it is a nice quite and secluded small hotel. I hope for the sake of Forest and all the kind employees that the city of San Pedro will consider to minimally improve the road to a" dirt road" standard.

The website for Playa De Sala does not do this modern boutique hotel justice. It's fabulous! If privacy, great service, food, and cool staff are your thing, then PDS is a great place to stay. It's not in the main part of town and does require an extra 15 minutes to arrive. It's Totally Worth it! The view of Tarpon Bay is fantastic, as is the rooftop bar/resturant (reasonable prices and tasty). Breakfast is included in the stay. The pool is for dipping, but it was not what we came for. Ms. Sala and her staff are protective and accommodating of guests, assisting with pre-arrival, tours, golf carts, and departure needs. We rented a golf cart to access San Pedro happenings and it was easy to go back/forth. Playa De Sala is a perfect quiet retreat for couples. We rarely saw the other occupants of this 5 room hotel and did not mind at all!!!! Again the bay view is everything. We felt really comfortable and will definitely return every time we come back to San Pedro! The hotel does have steps to enter the hotel and to access the rooftop (if one has accessibility concerns).
