We divided our vacation between the Alaia (in San Pedro) and Margaritaville, and the difference was very striking. Margaritaville is at the north end of the Caye, away from all the hustle&bustle of the city. From the moment we stepped off the boat (free shuttle from the city) onto the dock, the stress just melted away. Top reasons to visit? The people: Everyone working there was so kind and courteous, from Celeste and Faura and Jose at the front desk, the wonderful bartenders (Jhosue, Julianna), and the awesome servers (Anthony, Kevin, and so many others). Everyone greets you as if you are an old friend. Even the general manager Shawn goes the extra mile to connect with you and make sure you are enjoying yourself. The grounds: The main buildings, the bars, the restaurant, and the lighthouse are right on the beach. Yes, I said lighthouse. You can actually go up the lighthouse and take in the incredible 360degree view. Just phenomenal. There are 3 bars (not all open at same time), one main restaurant (but you can also order food pool bar during the day or the beach bar later in the afternoon). There are two pools (one with the swim-up pool bar next to the beach, the other more secluded and quieter). There is also a pickleball court (have not seen that on any other properties...it was awesome!). Possible the coolest thing about the grounds were the iguanas... they were so laid back and cool. The lodging: there are basically large homes scattered throughout a grove of trees, with winding paths and well-kept landscaping. Each building contains multiple suites. We were likely in one of the least expensive suites and still found it to be very large for the two of us. We've been on many vacations to various Caribbean locations, and my wife and I agreed that this was the most stress-free time we've ever spent. It's isolated a bit (you can wander north about 5 or 10 minutes to Tranquility Bay for some variety) but there's still a lot to do. Whether you snorkel off the dock or swim out to the reef, book trips to see the nurse sharks or rays, get in a game of pickleball (with the iguana's looking on), cornhole on the beach by the beach bar, grabbing the bikes for a quick ride, or just hanging out poolside all day long, you'll come away feeling refreshed. Bring sun tan lotion and bug spray, order up some Pina Coladas (with a splash of grenadine), and prepare to chill. Fins Up!
