Hotel Jakob

LOCATION: Hotel JAKOB is conveniently located at Hauptplatz 11, right at the foot of Schloss Rapperswil on the main square. The famed rose gardens, Lindenhof deer park and boat pier are all easily accessible on foot from here. Rapperswil train station is a quick 3-min walk away. When you exit the station, just cross the road and go down the street towards the Old Town until you see the fountain and dual flights of steps leading up to the imposing castle. Hotel JAKOB is on the right, a pale grey building with maroon shutters. ROOM: clean and spacious Single Room simply furnished with a bed; luggage rack; wall-mounted TV; work desk and chair. In lieu of a proper wardrobe, there’s an open-shelving unit with hangers and a small safe deposit box. Some rooms like mine face the side wall of adjacent building and the windows directly opposite look straight into my room - had to keep curtains drawn throughout stay. If privacy is an issue, you may wish to request for front-facing rooms but those might be noisier. Being situated in the bustling town square means a fair bit of noise, especially on mornings when they have a farmers’ market right outside and on weekends when crowds gather till late. Moreover, there’s a church nearby whose bells toll every 15 minutes (regardless of day or night) so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. BATHROOM: ensuite bathroom was clean and well-lit; furnished with the usual mirror above wash basin, shower stall and toilet. There was consistent flow of hot water and adequate water pressure. Soap dispensers are installed at the sink and in the shower. Hairdryer and disposable slippers are provided too. F&B: room rate was inclusive of daily breakfast. There was a good spread comprising of bread & croissants with jams & butter; milk & cereals; assorted cheese & yoghurts; cold cuts; fruits & juices; coffee & tea. On-site Restaurant serves regional cuisine and prides itself on offering both home-style cooking and sophisticated fare prepared with seasonal fresh ingredients. If you choose to dine out, there are many F&B options within the Old Town and by the lake. SERVICE: Room Reservation, Check-In & Out all proceeded smoothly. The Front Desk staff is multilingual and fluent in English. She was patient and helpful with providing sightseeing and travel info. FACILITIES: there’s a Lift which saves you the hassle of lugging your bags up & down several flights of stairs. Rooms are equipped with Air-Conditioning which comes in handy during the summer heatwave. Free WiFi is available too. In SHORT: Rapperswil does not have that many accommodation options and Hotel JAKOB is a decent choice offering clean & functional rooms right in the heart of its picturesque Old Town.

Leider kann man das Restaurant nicht separat bewerten. Somit mache ich das über das Hotel. Aber ich darf konstatieren, dass das was ich an einer Geburtstagsfeier erlebt habe schlichtweg und ergreifend grosse Klasse war! Kein Restaurant auf der Welt welche ich besucht habe (und das sind viele) kommen nicht annähernd an das Restaurant Jakob heran. Der Chef und Wirt hat nicht nur das Essen und Getränke im Griff, nein er greift zwischendurch die Gitarre welche an der Wand hängt und gibt sein Bestes. Also die Mischung Adriano Celentano, Zuccchero, Ramazotti &Co kommt dem sehr nahe. Fazit: Grossartig, besser geht nicht und sorry das Essen war auch Top.
