Bailiffgate Hotel

As it was our wedding anniversary we decided to try out this new 5 star hotel just 30mins drive from where we live. We booked a junior suite ‘Bassington’. We arrived for lunch at 1:30 and our room was ready. Stunning. Everything still so new and clean. A fantastic view of the castle. The restaurant has its own Vegan menu which was very good. Chef has 4 rosettes we were told. Truly delicious. Super king bed was delightfully firm and we got a great nights sleep. Aircon was brilliant. Big bath, huge double shower. The softest most wonderful bathrobes on earth. We enjoyed every luxurious detail immensely. Breakfast was glorious, fresh, colourful and very special. What a memorable anniversary treat! So glad this wonderful hotel is now in operation and we are very much looking forward to our future stays.

From the helpfulness of the reception Staff to the luxury of the Hotel Bar and Bedroom, most of our stay was fantastic, only let down by having to queue for 15 minutes to get into the breakfast room. They even arranged to have flowers in the bedroom for our arrival accompanied by a card from the Hotel as it was my Wife's Birthday. All of the Staff were great, but slightly overworked, as I don't think they are fully Staffed yet. We will definitely return.

The main issue with this hotel is parking. It is essential to park outside to unload your luggage. The car park is about half a mile away. Then you have to climb dozens of steps back to reception in order to check in. If you are lucky a concierge may park your car. If you are exceptionally fortunate, you may be able to park outside of the hotel, which is great. Staff will advise you how long you can park for, there are time restrictions. After this inauspicious check-in, I was pleased to discover that I had an excellent room with castle views. I really enjoyed the views. The bathroom was very good with Jo Malone toiletries and an excellent shower. The hotel is in an excellent location and guest have discounted tickets to the Castle. Some staff are still settling into their new roles and a little inexperienced/unhelpful. On the whole they are excellent and very informative about the hotel building and its history. The lady with a blonde ponytail in the commissioners' bar was very personable and efficient, taking pride in looking after the bar and treating the guests like guests. It is surprising how many hotels don't grasp this very simple concept of hospitality. Breakfast was very good, as were breakfast staff. I had a couple of bar snacks which were good value for money and nicely presented. One evening I ate elsewhere, which was a mistake. I hope to return, if so, I would choose to have an evening meal at the hotel, and the afternoon tea also looks interesting. Alnwick is a small, walkable town. There is a lot to do in the surrounding area, apart from the Castle. The hotel also has further plans for improvement

Lovely new hotel close to the town centre. Super helpful friendly staff and a great restaurant. Would definitely go there again and recommend to others.

A beautiful comfortable hotel. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff! A special mention to Karen and her staff in the dinning room. The main menu was very good, although if staying more than 2 nights and you can't eat or don't like certain foods it doesn't leave you much choice, might be an idea to change at least one item on the menu each night. (Just my opinion ) The hotel is situated a short walk into Alnwick and right opposite Alnwick Castle. We would certainly return for another visit, but eat out more in the evening.

Lovely comfortable hotel. The room was spacious with views of the courtyard below. It was very well equipped with tea and coffee and biscuits provided. The bathroom was large with everything we needed.
