H Boutique Peña Parda

We have just returned from a two night break staying at Boutique Peña Parda and can’t wait to return. We were welcomed by Marta and although we were early were able to access our room which was on the first floor and had a large terrace overlooking the beach where we could relax on sun loungers or sit at the table. The room itself was spotlessly clean, contemporary in design and very comfortable. The attached Mercato restaurant was so good that we decorated to eat there on both nights. Our days started well too with an excellent self service breakfast. There was a very chilled vibe and yet, as well as being friendly and fun, all the staff were professional and efficient. The private parking is also a bonus as La Herradura can get busy in the summer. We are lucky to have discovered this gem and look forward to returning soon!

It was hard to spot the hotel on arrival as it's restaurant (called Mercato) sits in front of the reception building and signage is minimal. Parking is free round the back. Our initial impression of our room (201) was good …. tastefully decorated, quality toiletries, good wifi and strong AC. However, during our stay, we realised: # the safe didn’t work # the “mountain view” was totally obscured by trees so there was absolutely no view # the shower drain blocked every time the shower was used. We reported this constantly to reception but nothing was done. Water seeped into both the bathroom and bedroom. The continental breakfast was perfectly adequate. The hotel’s restaurant was a dining pleasure, see separate review. Crewed by a hard working team; Luna was sensational. The hotel’s service directory gives the impression that sun beds on the beach opposite, are free to use; be warned they not, reception demands €12 per day. All in all this is the best, quietest end of town to stay. If the leadership team sort out the minor issues encountered, for the price charged, this would be a 5 star stay.

Stayed there to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary and it was a perfect choice! My wife Pilar chose the hotel for it's location, size and not a long drive from our Costa del Sol residence. The rooms are spacious, well equipped, nice shower heads. Very clean over all. Opportunity to sun bathe on a private terrace which Marta upgraded to. Thank you! Breakfast was nice, plenty of everything and fresh of course. You could see we're in avocado and mango region. Coffee excellent and strong, the way we like it. Had a dinner there which we enjoyed very much. Great truffle pizza!! Free and ample parking is a plus specially for a Porsche 992 Turbo S that needs to be pampered and avoid any "close encounters" with a neighbour. Crossing the road is a beach with lounge chairs and straw umbrellas for rent. To walk on the beach is recommended to wear plastic shoes as there're large pebbles and not much sand. The sea is quite warm and clear. Plenty of water sports available to enjoy.as well. Many good restaurant along the beach front within short walking distance to explore. Also easy drive to explore other parts of Almuñecar coast. Good food, beaches and scenery. Definitely we'll be back again!

The room was like a cupboard not even room for a chair and incredibly noisy up to o 1am🥺 bathroom incorporated into the room. Air conditioning not working from the sensor. This could not be reported as no one spoke English. Tv in room no English station not even news. Only German and Spanish. Breakfast simple cold meat/cheese the scrambled eggs cold and ran out at 9.30. I felt the rate of 220 euros for one night was very high for the standard of the hotel. restaurant limited opening hours but this is where the loud music came from at night. Great for young people I guess not those that want a good nights sleep.

Unfortunately we cannot recommend this hotel. We stayed three nights with our four children. The first two rooms that we had were wonderful and we had a lovely stay. The staff are so friendly and helpful! We checked out but then decided that we would like to stay a third night as our youngest child had a fever. One of the rooms was the same room that we had the nights before and was beautifully cleaned and prepared, but the other was room 204 on the second floor and when we opened the door we were hit by the smell of mould and cleaning products. It was so bad that even after we aired the room It stung our eyes and our oldest child who has asthma began feeling symptoms after just a few minutes. we spoke to the receptionest who said that she could not offer us a different room. We brought her up to the room but she claimed to not smell anything. When I lifted the bed linen that goes to the floor the smell of mould was very clear. Because it was 7.30 at night and we had a child who was unwell with fever we had no choice but to pay 60euros extra for a fancy sea front room that we did not want or need. It was directly over the restaurant and the sound kept us awake. In that sea front room I enjoyed a beautiful shower the next morning overlooking the sea through the glass door, but had to cut my shower short as the children started shouting that the shower was leaking all over the floor. There was a huge puddle that had leaked out from The corner of the shower on the opposite side to the shower door. We received no compensation or apology from the manager whatsoever for the inconvenience of the mould or the leaky shower and we are left so disappointed by the experience! Such a. Shame because if we had left after days two we would have given 5 stars! We paid for 2 large double rooms for 3 nights, total of 554 euro. The staff were so friendly but the management leaves a lot to be desired! I would unfortunately not recommend this hotel because if there is any issues that need to be addressed there is no customer service and you may end up out of pocket to rent a different room! In the photos below you can see the puddle from the shower and in the final phot you can see a huge wet patch beside the bed in room 204 that stank of mould and cleaning products. The other rooms we had did not smell this way despite just being cleaned!

Lovely little hotel on the front of La Heradurra. Hotel clean, fresh, cool and very well appointed. The Bedroom was very well done, modern, clean with great facilities. Bed incredibly comfortable. Terrace from our room was over the restaurant below, which restricted the view of the promenade but the views of the Mediterranean beyond were awesome. The Hotel is next door to a jet ski/boat hire service with non stop action. The sound of buzzing jet skis was dominant as was the noise of the tractor delivering boats to the waters edge. Care note: the dedicated car park at the back of the hotel is not manned. We parked in a space that had no restrictions or signs. On returning to our car (after check in), we were confronted by a female driver who declared we had parked in a private space. There were no signs anywhere to indicate the space we were in was restricted or private? We ignored her and left our car where it was. As the car park belongs to the hotel, it might help to have someone in attendance so that guests who arrive know where they can and can't park. Check in did not make a note of our vehicle registration so it's unclear how the car park is being controlled? During our check out the person at the desk wasn't very attentive, preferring to be on a call on her mobile phone. This is a high end boutique hotel that charges accordingly. In my experience staff in 'high end' facilities should be a little bit more attentive to their guests. Parking anomalies and staff inattention on the check in/out desk are why I grade this hotel 4 not 5. If we stay again I will book a sea view room with balcony on level two for a better view of everything.
