You can reach Amsterdam from Almere, within 16 mins by train, but the prices here are half than there. It is ideal to stay a little outside, but has all that you need without crowding as in Amstrd, to eat drink, shop, enjoy and relax. Van der Valk Hotel Almere

The booked room was supposed to be available in the early afternoon, but unfortunately this was not the case, as they had not yet made up the beds. We had to wait a total of one and a half hours in the reception hall until we could go to the room. The time we had to spend waiting for the room to be made available was sweetened with complimentary cappuccinos. The accommodations were very spacious and had a large bathroom with a double rain shower, a bathtub, and double sink vanities, though one had a clogged drain. The toilet was in a separate small room. It was nice to have two separate bedrooms, as this was a family accommodation. In one place the wallpaper had visibly come off the wall and in another place the cladding on the headboard of the bed was slightly damaged. Furthermore, the remote control of the TV was so dirty that we did not use it. All these problems could have been fixed by the room service before handing over the room to the guests. It was not easy to find a free parking space in the parking lot in front of the hotel, as this hotel is a popular conference hotel. There were several events held there, so the parking spaces were quite filled by the company employees who attended. The evening meal in the hotel restaurant was excellent, as you can read in my separate review. The breakfast buffet was also very good. The selection of cold and hot dishes was impressive and one wished that there was such a good choice elsewhere. It was very positive that after mentioning the above shortcomings, an apology was made for the inconveniences and a price reduction of about 13% was subsequently refunded. It can be assumed that in the current situation, this hotel also has staffing problems, like everywhere else in Europe, and that in normal times no problems would have occurred.

Stay away from this hotel and run as far as possible away is my advice. They took my money after over 9weeks! I booked this hotel on the 25th of May for 23-26 of June which at the time was 1month away. I cancelled immediately after booking and it was free cancellation, I cancelled because I found another hotel closer the family I was visiting. All the booking were made of booking.com on the same day. Cancellation was in fact within 10min. Anyway on the 5th August, I saw €380 deducted from my account from Bastion Hotel that was already cancelled. €380 after almost 10weeks! That is fraud! Booking.com said they cannot do anything and that property process payment, property said it say non refundable on booking which was a lie, I asked how come they are taking money after 10week, the hotel did not answer any of my emails. It is either they have employed someone that specialises in fraudulent transaction or they are just thief. Just run away from this hotel. What guests are saying ””The room could have been cleaner and the breakfast a little bit better.”” ”Good service, nice staff” ”For the price I paid I was very happy with the rooms.” More Couples 3.2 Families 3.4 Business 3.5 Solo 3.2 Google doesn't verify reviews from other travel sites. THEY ARE FRAUDSTERS OR HAVE EMPLOYED ONE.I CANCELLED A BOOKING 25TH OF MAY AT THE HOTEL DUE TO LOCATION FAR FROM WHERE I WAS GOING. THE BOOKING WAS FOR 23RD OF JUNE. THE CANCELLATION SAYS FREE CANCELLATION ON THE DAY AND IT WAS 4 WEEKS AWAY. I BOOKED ANOTHER HOTEL ON SAME 25TH OF MAY APPROX 10MIN AFTER THE BOOKING WAS CANCELLED ON SAME BOOKING.COM. JUST SUDDENLY ON THE 5TH OF AUGUST WHICH IS 71 DAYS AFTER, I SAW €380 TAKEN OUT OF MY ACCOUNT FROM BASTION HOTEL, I CONTACTED MY BANK AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE ACCESS BECAUSE I PUT MY BANK DETAILS FOR BOOKING BUT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN MONEY SINCE IT WAS CANCELLED. I CONTACTED BOOKING.COM AND WAS REDIRECTED TO THE HOTEL. THE HOTEL DID NOT RESPOND TO EMAIL NOR ANSWER MY CALLS AND BOOKING.COM SAID THEY REQUESTED A WAIVE BUT THE PROPERTY SAID NO. I ASKED WHY AFTER 71 DAYS BUT NO RESPONSE. PLS RUN 🏃‍♂️ AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. ONCE THEY HAVE ACCESS TO UR ACCOUNT THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY WITHOUT NOTICE. PLEASE CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS TO SEE IF THEY ARE NOT TAKING UR MONEY. THEY WAITED 71 DAYS! RUN

Located next to Almere station, and a World Trade Centre building. Trains direct via South station, from Schiphol (AMS) Airport, 28 mins, not around loop through Amsterdam. Obtain or top up yr Travel Chipkaart, for travel on ALL trains, trams, buses, metro Nationally! No time limits or expensive periods, just as travel should be. Try also to get a loaded debit Euros card, fewer places take cash, and ONLY major stores Credit cards. Check any card you bring is NOT classed as a Credit card here, options are running very low for everyday or small purchases, and cash is sp**** used in NL's now. For tax free purchases, check in the store before to see if they participate in Global Blue, (Et al),where you will need yr passport at the store, to begin the store purchases. You can reach Amsterdam from Almere, within 16 mins by train, but the prices here are half than there. It is ideal to stay a little outside, but has all that you need without crowding as in Amstrd, to eat drink, shop, enjoy and relax. More people who stayed in the Capital before and seen done all they wish stay here. Within easy reach if you want to go there. But in Summer Season it is now over packed with people, hotel prices really double/ treble what they were Pre-Covid, and simply not worth it. It is a small city for so many crowding in and becoming less easy a place to spend time. In Almere, This hotel, is a High Rise Associated with USA Chain Best Western, More space if you select an apartment with separate living room, large Bathroom, looks v new and generally smart. Basic good size kitchenette, fridge, 2 plate Hob, which is useful; for longer stays. Great views out to Polder and Sea in distance, with the city reaches around. Opposite a Spar mini shop, with many sandwiches, hot toasted breads, coffee machine and whole good range of supermarket items, but small sized, so ideal for a few days. Or, Albert Hein mini store at station, for chilled foods, drinks, some basics handy. Plenty places to take a drink, eat meals or snacks within the city. You can buy and make yr own breakfast in the apnt, rather than an 18 Euros Breakfast here only til 9am! Plenty breakfast, lunch, anytime eat options to eat in the Centre 2 mins walk under train station. Housekeeping - However, the making of a bed is not hygienic, not covering the mattress with the sheet, no mattress cover, nor pillow case covers, the same. It means all guests sleep on the bare mattress and pillows all not covered properly. My Cosy Apnt for 2 , had 2 single duvets, open in the middle badly tucked into one side. It was quiet bizarre , impractical, not made up well. This does not comply with most basic hygiene requirements. Furniture looks nice, but not comfortable or soft, and all needs a steam clean to get rid of stains. Hairs on the furniture also. Housekeeping staff appear to be from East Europe, speak no english. abrupt, rude, no care or concern for guests, refuse to clean with you inside?!! They clearly give the impres

The hotel was fine, but I agree with the previous reviewer that there is an extractor fan on all the time which is a bit annoying. I quite like Almere itself. It's modern but not depressing like so many newly built areas in Britain. The main problem is the cost of going to and from Amsterdam each day on the train. I was told that you can buy a ticket for 3 days on the train. You can't buy one at Almere Centrum station. You can't buy one at the ticket machines at Amsterdam Centraal station. Or the information kiosks. There is supposed to be a special kiosk at Centraal but I didn't manage to find it. Another thing is that the coffee often tastes horrible. I didn't have coffee at this hotel but at several places in the Netherlands I did. They don't seem to use fresh milk. I don't know if it's UHT or sterilised or maybe some kind of coffee creamer. If you go to Dunkin Donuts though you can choose fresh milk. There is one in Almere and a few in Amsterdam. Or buy a half litre in a supermarket and take it with you if you go to a cafe.

The room we were given was one for people with a disability, which meant it was very spacious. The decor was nice, the beds comfortable, although a little soft. The bathroom was also spacious and had everything a disabled person would need. It didn't bother us we were staying in this room. We didn't have breakfast but had a coffee which was good. Because this room is on the ground floor just behind reception and next to the breakfast room we did experience noise. There is a 24-hour coffee and tea making facility in the breakfast room which is great. However, when we were staying, there were people in there even in the middle of the night, as we could hear the chairs being used (scraping sound which was very audible in our room). That got worse when breakfast service really started in the morning. It made sleeping a little challenging. We would stay here again, but would definitely ask for a room on a higher floor and further away from the breakfast room. Check in and out was quick and easy and staff were friendly.

I had a wonderful experience at this place. The staff greeted me warmly with smiles, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The rooms are modern and impeccably maintained, and it's conveniently accessible by car with paid parking near the Jumbo store. The breakfast was also delightful. I highly recommend this establishment.
