The Clarence Gardens Hotel

We must have found the best small hotel in its price range in Scarborough. This hotel has recently been renovated to an exceptionally high standard, including a lift. We were in room 12 on the first floor with a large bay window with a panoramic view of Scarborough's north bay. It was a delight to sit in the window with a coffee and just watch the sea and sky. The room had everything that you need, although the en-suite is small the shower is ample big enough, perhaps there should be a shelf under the mirror toothbrush and toothpaste, but there is plenty of space underneath in the vanity sink unit. The hotel has a lounge again with the same panoramic sea view, and also includes a bar. Plenty of tea and coffee, in the room with beautiful blue patterned mugs. The breakfast is buffet style with plenty of selection both hot and cold. Staff very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you, gave us directions into Scarborough town centre which was only a ten minute walk, also gave recommendations for an evening meal, as at present they don’t do evening meals. Can’t recommend this hotel enough, many thanks to all the staff, we had an excellent weekend.

We have just spent 2 nights at the Clarence Hotel. We have been here before (many years ago) and the refurb which has recently been done is up to a high standard. The room had everything we needed. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We are looking to return later in the year, it's just a shame that no family rooms have a sea view.

I would have loved to have given this a five but I just can't. The room was very well presented but there is no mirror with a socket near it and the room is very small with hardly room to get past the end of the bed, especially if you have mobility issues ( my wife is on crutches). The room was generally clean but there was a toothpaste lid on the floor behind the bathroom door. The bed was very comfy and the views were brilliant. The staff were very good with a very swift check in and found us a room that could be accessed by lift. I would visit again but request a bigger room.
