Auburn Hill MADISON cottage Circa 1802 offer a peaceful private setting on a historic horse farm once owned by Thomas Jefferson and part of the original Monticello estate, a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. with close proximity to wineries (10 minutes), town (12 minutes), Monticello (next door neighbor), Rivanna River(borders the property) Carter mountain (8 minutes), Clifton Inn ( 2 minutes) and many other activities. The cottage dates back to 1805, the property was once part of Monticelo and owned by Thomas Jefferson. It has been completely updated and modernized, combining the best of both worlds. There is a private lake (catch and release fishing), along with a 14 foot dingy for those qualified to operate it! A "Jimmy Buffet Key West" 20 x 40 heated salt water pool complex with a PRIVATE HIIGH END JACUZZI FOR EACH COTTAGE a large grill with side burner, two large bars, pavilion, indoor/outdoor showers, bathroom/changing room, multiple outdoor games, two fire pit, two double hammocks and mountain/pasture views with complete privacy to enjoy the area. Most times it will be only you at the pool area. It is a working farm so there will be help around the farm to keep it well groomed for visitors.Magical setting for watching wildlife like the bald eagles soaring down the river, multiple deer grazing in the fields, geese and ducks floating on the lake, or Great Blue Heron trying to catch lunch. Once on the farm you do not see any close neighbors (cottage is near main house, but situated to maximize privacy), unless you count looking up at the distant hillside to Monticello(see photo). The whistle or light rumbling of the distant train across the river can be heard on occasion. You can walk down to the rivers edge and sit on a large bolder watching the occasion kayakers floating down the river(or bring your own). This is our newest and second vrbo on our property. This barn studio, the Milton View, sits on a 5-acre parcel that once was included in the adjacent 64-acre farm. It is located about 100 yards from our main house and also houses our other vrbo, the Hidden Gem, which is located on the other side. It's a great place to enjoy a peaceful morning sunrise with a cup of coffee on your private covered porch or a glass of wine in the evenings watching the sun go down. Although you will feel like you are in the country, we are only a short 15 minute drive to city center. We are two minutes from the renowned Clifton Inn, a popular wedding destination and 5-star restaurant. Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello is a 7 minute drive and wineries are all around the area. The Milton View boasts a custom tiled walk in shower, king size bed and polished concrete floors. I pride myself on providing a clean, comfy space. I grind my own favorite local coffee been from Greenberry’s prior to each arrival for my guests to enjoy. In season, enjoy our own private swimming pool while taking in the mountainous view. Neighbor's to the Clifton Inn. Want to visit Carter's Mountain to view the fall foliage or pick apples? That will take you 5 minutes as will Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. It's just minutes away from many of your favorite things that Charlottesville has to offer but in a very private, peaceful setting. We like to call it our "hidden gem." This studio apartment sits on a 5-acre parcel that once was included in the adjacent 64-acre farm. This barn studio sits about 100 yards from our main house and houses our newest “sister” studio as well, the Milton View, by way of a new addition that sits on the other side. It's a great place to enjoy a summer sunset from your own balcony, or just hang out and breathe the fresh country air after a long day of visiting local wineries. This loft studio consists of a king bed that has a nice foam topper. Enjoy a nice hot shower in the walk-in tiled shower. There also is a kitchen complete with coffee maker, stove, refrigerator/freezer. I love to decorate so I’m particularly grateful to do so in this barn studio. I want my guests to feel like they are in a home not in a hotel room. I carefully hand pick and oftentimes paint my own furniture finds. The balcony is a great place for morning coffee (I grind my local favorite Greenberry’s coffee beans for guests to enjoy prior to each arrival) breathing in the fresh air and taking in the Mountain View’s. We have a fire pit (wood, kindling, blankets and lighter provided) and a pool up near our main house for our guests to enjoy. (Please let us know if you’d like to use the pool after 6:30 pm as we like to swim laps around that time so we can adjyst.) There is another guesthouse on the property and all guests have access to the pool. This Barn boasts two studios that would be perfect when traveling with friends or two couple because each offers its own private entrance and sleeping quarters. They are in the same building, our “barn,”, share the same GREAT views and outdoor private pool overlooking the view of the mountains, but are completely separate entities. They do not connect. You can find them in this site to rent separately or here, together for a nice, peaceful weekend with friends. The Hidden Gem has its own private balcony for coffee in the morning and watching the sunrise and The Milton View has its own covered porch that boasts a view of the gorgeous sunrise, with a cup of Java, or the stellar sunsets with a glass of wine.
