The motor lodge is situated just off the edge of the Akaroa waterfront in Rue Jolie South (which is separated from Rue Jolie proper by part of the harbour. The street holds many French-style cottages, reflecting the fact that this town was first settled by French immigrants. The lodge is also close to the esplanade which has numerous eateries, small shops and so on. Boat trips on the harbour leave from the wharf situated in this area. Our room was reasonably sized, with a bed, small table and a kitchenette with a microwave, sandwich press and electric frypan. There was a small refrigerator in this area. The kitchen drawers held cutlery and some cooking implements, and plates, cups and glasses were in a cupboard above. The bathroom had features such as a heater and a heated towel rack. Everything was clean and obviously well-cared for. The microwave was in a small cupboard with a door that hinged down from above, and we found by accident that it then slid back above the oven. It was important to push it all the way back to avoid the risk of bumping one's head on it while at the sink. i would have liked some sort of directory in the room with an indication of where necessary facilities could be found and how they worked - a laundromat for example - as we stayed at Akaroa at the end of our first week in New Zealand. The cost was good for the level of facilities.
