4/5Molto buono
This was my second stay at the Marriott McDowell (first stay was many, many, years ago). I was in the area for a few days with my wife to visit family. The hotel is an open and has a spacious feel. Every single member of the staff was outwardly friendly and helpful. We arrived in the morning, but happily our room was ready and available for check in. Our room was large with a living room area and a bedroom behind a set of French doors. The living room had a large TV, a pull out couch, a closet, a small kitchen area (sink, refrigerator (but not a mini bar), and coffee maker), a desk area, a guest chair, and the balcony. The bedroom had a king size bed, another large TV, two night stands, and the bathroom. The bathroom had a double sink, a stall shower, a bathtub, and one of those light up magnifying mirrors. Also in the room was an iron and ironing board, and a hair dryer. Between the night stands, and the credenza the bedroom TV sat on, there was ample drawer space. The closet was also a good size. Temperatures were near 100-degrees during our stay, but the hotel and our room, were always very comfortable. The rooms do not have a safe, and I found the use of plastic cups in the bathroom instead of glass kind of cheapens the feel of what is an otherwise very nice hotel. We also noticed some of fabric/webbing on the sling-back lounge chair by the pool were either frayed or stretched out a bit. The TVs get the usual set of broadcast and cable channels as well as HBO. The TV can be used used to access Netflix (using your own credentials), and perhaps some other streaming services. We ate in the restaurant several times for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and some cocktails (the prickly pear margarita is highly recommended). The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. At the pool, you can scan a QR code to order food and drinks. The food was good, and service was very good. The hotel has a very bright, spacious and comfortable feel, and seems well maintained. I also like that there is an area next to the front desk where you can buy snacks, and items you may have forgotten to pack (e.g. toothpaste) and some over the counter medications. Parking is not included, so we did the self-parking (as opposed to the valet). We hit a snag with the QR code, but the staff was easily able to rectify it. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. In addition to the comfortable and spacious feel, I think the staff is the real star of this property.
